Members of CM3 recently delivered 2017 NSF-CBMS lectures on nonlocal models, analysis and computation in Chicago. The Conference Board of the Mathematical Sciences (CBMS) is an umbrella organization consisting of seventeen professional societies all of which have as one of their primary objectives the increase or diffusion of knowledge in one or more of the mathematical sciences. To stimulate interest and activity in mathematical research, more than 350 NSF-CBMS Regional Research Conferences have been supported by the National Science Foundation in the last 48 years.
Among the 2017 conferences, the conference hosted by IIT on Nonlocal Dynamics featured Prof.Qiang Du as the principal lecturer. Dr.Xiaochuan Tian, a member of CM3, and Dr.Tadele Mengesha, a former postdoc, also joined Prof.Du and presented invited lectures on the same theme at the conference. Their lectures touched upon the origin of nonlocal models, new mathematical framework, robust numerical algorithms and various applications. The subject has been under rapid development in recent years and is one of the main research focuses at CM3.
